How to make Authentic Spanish Churros the right way

Who doesn’t love good, hot churros?

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp sugar + extra for dusting
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ of a lemon or lime
  • 2 cups neutral oil
  • ½ tbsp cinnamon

Instructions

  • Pour water into a heavy pan, add sugar and salt, bring to a boil over low heat; stirring until dissolved. Remove from heat and beat in flour
  • Beat in egg until smooth and satiny, set aside
  • Heat 2 inches of oil with lemon or lime until at 375°
  • Pour batter into a piping bag with a fluted nozzle, squirt 7.5cm long strips directly into the oil. Be careful not to splash any, it’ll hurt
  • Fry for roughly 2 minutes or until golden brown, flipping if stuck. Dry on paper towel, and then roll in a sugar & cinnamon mix.
  • Serve hot. Optional but recommended: dip the first ¼ of churro into warm chocolate
